For Sale SOLD – Corribee Betsy MKII Fin Keel 1978 (Posted July 2017, sold Aug 2017)

Betsy and I have recently returned from a singlehanded transatlantic. She has undergone an extensive refit over a four year period, this has been thoroughly documented on my blog. Here you will find a wealth of photographs that show the full extent of the preparations.

There are numerous videos of our adventures together which begin here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1RxT0NsTnc&app=desktop

As a result of the modifications to Betsy I would imagine she would be of most interest to a prospective Jester Challenger or at the least someone interested in singlehanded sailing.

Betsy has no engine at this time but a single paddle is included in the sale!

Betsy is for sale complete with her sails and basic inventory which includes a fixed Garmin GPS and LED navigation lights. Her trailer is a modified Brian James with an all up capacity of 3500kg, this is for sale by separate negotiation as is the Windpilot Pacific Light windvane but not until Betsy has found a new home first.

Price: £sold for Betsy and her basic inventory, with the trailer and windvane as a separate negotiation. If someone wanted the whole package it would be £sold.

FOR SALE  (Sold) – Tern Tu, Junk Rig Corribee, Hull No: 7890 (posted April 2017, Sold May 2017)

I bought the boat about 5 years ago, from a then Moderator for the Corribee/Coromandel Discussion Group, and trailered it back from Lake Windermere to my home in South East Hampshire. The idea was to refit it and circumnavigate the UK. Unfortunately, because of life events and health issues etc. it’s sat on it’s chocked up trailer since then and although I’ve maintained and improved it, it’s unlikely that I will now sail it so better for someone else to enjoy it.

The Boat: The hull is in a very sound condition, previously painted and the superstructure is the original unpainted white gelcoat. In a nod to Roger Taylor’s (author of Voyages of a Simple Sailor) approach I decided to remove the sea toilet – which needed replacing anyway – and the associated seacocks including the one for the sink, which itself has already been taken out by a previous owner, epoxy filled the resultant holes and glassed over internally. However, all easily reinstated if the new owner wishes to do so. The 12v battery box now sits where the toilet was for better weight distribution.
I also removed the old LPG hob and gas pipework and replaced it with a 2 burner Origo 3000 spirit model.
I’ve replaced the cockpit drains and associated seacocks with slightly larger ones.
The cabin sides are painted, the roof lined with a cherry veneered ply and I’ve used a stretch lining carpet material to cover the main central structural beam area.
The previously renewed red vinyl upholstery is in excellent condition and has been dry stored off the boat since I bought it.
The junk rig version of the Coribbee steps the mast through what would normally have been the opening hatch so in order to maintain ventilation I’ve installed a small Goit opening hatch fo’ard of the centre curve of the coachroof. The first two photos show the boat on Lake Windermere and it ready to be trailers home from there.

Instrumentation consists of an Echopilot combined log/depth sounder and a Plastimo Contest compass both mounted in the cockpit.
A bi-colour nav light and stern light are pulpit and pushpit mounted respectively and a masthead mounted steaming light. There is a cabin light fitted and a 12v socket outlet. I have also fitted a new switch panel.

The rig itself was renewed by the previous owner in his early ownership and he had a set of articulated aluminium alloy battens made as well as a new sail. I understand the concept of articulated battens for this type of rig is to give a more adaptive sail set and therefore efficiency, to its sailing performance. I still have the original wooden battens which, of course, are included. The sail, battens and boom etc. have been stored, in its sail cover, on a rack in my garage.

There is a CQR pattern anchor (about 5kg), with approx. 5.5m of chain and approx. 29m anchor line, a bilge pump, ensign & staff, various fenders and lines, transom boarding ladder AND courtesy of Jake Kavanagh, the mould he used to make an anchor locker for an article he wrote for PBO magazine several years ago. He kindly gave me the mould when I met him back in 2012ish but having just checked with him he doesn’t need it back now.

I deliberately haven’t anti-fouled as, in it’s previous life, it could be in a fresh water environment or a sea water one, both requiring a different AF formulation.

The Motor: The outboard motor is a 5hp 4-stroke water cooled Honda outboard with a 3amp charging facility. I ensured the engine was properly “winterised” when I laid it up in my garage and after putting some fresh fuel in the approx. 22 litre portable fuel tank a couple of days ago, it started on the third pull and ran very sweetly. When mounted on its drop down bracket it is operated by a forward-neutral-reverse and throttle remote control fitted in the cockpit coaming.

The Trailer: The trailer is a 4-wheeled custom built fully galvanised, 2000kg capacity trailer by Lizard Trailers of Helston, Cornwall. Although built for a Corribee I’m sure it could used, or adapted, for similar sized boats, if required, as well. The trailer is in very good condition and the wheels, with minimal tyre wear, have been dry stored whilst the boat has been chocked up on it.

So, for the trio of boat, outboard and trailer, including information on using junk rig and a owners handbook for the Honda outboard, the asking price is £sold. I’m sorry but I’m not prepared to separate the package. The boat is at my home address about 3 miles from Emsworth on the South Coast and I can be contacted on 07970 541327 or email jrcorribee4sale@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest in looking.

For Sale SOLD – 1984 Newbridge Coromandel (posted April 2017, Sold June 2017)

Little Min. Hull No 8257. We bought her in 2013  as a restoration project – she had broken her moorings and lost both her rudder and skeg. The person that we bought her from had got her intending to carry out the renovation, but having ripped out the entire interior (even the bulkhead!) he decided that it was too much work and passed her on to us. The trailer was made roadworthy with new wheel rims and tyres, new wheel bearings, brakes cleaned and correctly adjusted, breakaway cable and the required front, rear and side reflectors fitted.

The pulpit, pushpit and stanchions were removed and re-bedded with Sikaflex. The windows were removed and using an excellent kit from Eagle Boat Windows, were repaired and re-bedded – as was the fore hatch. All deck hardware – cleats, fairleads, bow roller, ventilators etc. – were removed, cleaned and re-bedded. The rudder stock tube was re-bushed, a new rudder stock fabricated from 25mm 316 stainless bar. The rudder was laminated from 6 layers of 18mm marine ply, screwed and bonded with epoxy to the stock, then shaped and covered with epoxy/glass fibre. The skeg was framed with hardwood, infilled with closed-cell foam, shaped and covered with multi layers of epoxy/cloth. A new 316 stainless heel fitting was fabricated and supports the lower end of the rudder stock.

The hull was strengthened internally, totally rewired and new gas lines fitted. The seacocks were as-new, so they were removed, cleaned and refitted with marine ply backing pads and bedded with Sikaflex. An internal oil-filled tube was made and fitted to take the echo sounder transducer – no extra hole in the hull. New electric bilge pump and float switch were installed and limber hole tubes glassed in to direct bilge water to the pump.

The interior was rebuilt using the standard layout as a basis. The unit on the mid starboard side has a drop down door that holds a washing up bowl. There is a new 2 burner cooker in the galley area with storage below, above and to the side. The heads has an as-new Porta-Potti that easily unfastens (one wing nut) for taking out and emptying. The aft bulkhead in the heads houses the switch panel that has a digital volt meter to test battery state and a battery cut-off switch – all new.

There is a new Garmin GPS 152 and a new NASA Target echo sounder mounted on a swinging bracket on the inside of the starboard cockpit forward bulkhead, that can be swung out to read from the helm. The GPS has an external antenna that is mounted on a pole on the pushpit – out of way of the mainsheet. The cabin headlining is new – as are the cabin side linings. There are 4 interior lights all LED – all new. Two 12v sockets were installed. The navigation lights have also been replaced with new LED units. Battery consumption is minimal. The photos show an orange topped battery – this is the leisure battery from our motorhome – a new 75ah leisure battery will be fitted prior to sale. Engine is a 5hp Yamaha 5BS air-cooled 2 stroke outboard that has a remote tank.

The exterior was strengthened where needed with epoxy/glass – a mixture of CSM and woven roving. Main areas being the leading and trailing edges of the bilge keels and fillets on both inner and outer keel/hull attachment areas. The entire cockpit sole was recovered.

The folding mast has been professionally repaired by Needlespar. There is a new Windex wind indicator that fits at the masthead. Most of the running rigging was replaced with new. The sail and cover have been checked and repaired where necessary.

The anchor is a 6kg Delta with 3.4 metres of 8mm chain and 40 metres of 18mm octoplait 8 strand nylon. There are sufficient warps and fenders, a boathook, ensign staff and a copy of the Corribee/Coromandel manual.

Currently lying in Leeds, West Yorkshire, I am prepared to deliver the boat to any address in the UK at a cost of £1 per mile one way. More photos available, phone me with your email address, or for further information.

FOR SALE SOLD – Corribee Mark 2. Great little Cruiser. Ready to Trail and Sail. (Posted 6 April 2017, sold Sept 2020)

Peregrine is a Fin Keel 21 ft Corribee, Sail Number 219. Built in 1973 and I am her second owner from 1977. Moored annually in Weymouth Harbour and used for club racing  and local  day sailing in Weymouth bay and occasional trips along the south coast to Poole Harbour and up the river to Wareham. Good proven all weather little cruising boat very capable of Round Britain, Cross channel and even Trans Atlantic sailing.

She has 4 berths with original cushioning (still OK). There is the original gas hob and grill (some rust); sink with a lifting pump tap and draining to a hull stop cock outlet; SL 400 toilet with pump and two stop cocks. The padded cabin wall side lining was replaced a few years ago and is still OK.

The hull is very sound. Old antifouling was removed in 2010 by sandblasting down to the gel coat and then repainted with undercoat and SeaJet 034 Emperor High Performance self polishing antifoul; last repainted in 2016. The decking itself is waterproof but some areas have weathered with superficial blistering.

She is fully rigged with Proctor slab reefing silver metal Boom and Mast which hinges in a non rusting black metal tabernacle and standing rigging of 1995. Excellent virtually as new Crusader Jib and cruising Genoa. The original storm jib and the original spinnaker with pole. Cranfield 4 batton pocketed mainsail. Halliards and sheet ropes for these sails.

Original folding  anchor with chain running down into a forward storing locker via a deck outlet. Additional useful Skeg Damforth anchor and line. A boat hook, Birgee, warps and mooring springs and fenders.

There is a Seafarer Echosounder and a hand held compass.
Standard Horizon Submersible VHF Marine Transceiver.
Hand held Garmin GPS 111 Personal Navigator.
Mercury 3.3 outboard with a clutch which is easy to start and has been reliable.
She was lifted out on 31/10/12 for wintering on her SBS road trailer which was repainted after welding repairs last year.

A lovely little cruising boat which I have enjoyed over 40 years. Alas I am getting a bit old now and she needs to be enjoyed and used more by a more flexible owner! She awaits on her trailer and could be launched straight away. If interested get in contact and come and see.

For Sale SOLD – Corribee mkII bilge keel (posted April 2017 sold May 2017)

“Dream on” (formerly “Jeans Toy”) a Mk11 Bilge Keel with single axle trailer. I purchased “Dream on” in 2008, she was on the water at Exmouth and then moved ashore into Barn storage for a planned internal refit.  The refit was started and then unfortunately a health problem whilst I was working in Singapore and the subsequent rehabilitation meant the work was not finished and probably never will be. The Barn is now required for other things and “Dream On” needs to be sold.

“Dream on” is complete with sails, mast etc.  but has not been rigged since 2009 – all essential components have just laid in Barn storage. Apart from a mast spreader being broken (probably as a result of being moved into storage, there are no obvious issues.

“Dream on” is being sold as a project and inspection is welcomed.

PRICE:  Please inspect and make an offer – there is no fixed price.

For Sale SOLD – SEABEE Sail number 148, Newbridge built in 1974 (Posted March 2017, sold March 2017)

A great little yacht; I have used her for singlehanded, engineless daysailing whenever possible, as respite during 5 years as a fulltime carer. She is in good order but remains essentially a bare boat inside, ideal as a fitting out project for more ambitious sailing; sadly, changing circumstances prevent me doing this work hence a reluctant sale but this tough, practical little yacht would amply reward anyone able to take her on.

Inventory:

A good sound hull painted and antifouled last year. Fin keel with skeg hung rudder and beach legs, outboard stern bracket, hardwood rubbing strips.

Deck and self draining cockpit with nonslip finish will be repainted this spring. Stainless pulpit, pushpit, stanchions, grab rails and ventilators; sheet tracks and winches, deck fittings and cockpit drains in working order, new washboards.

Tabernacle stepped alloy mast with stainless rigging and fittings, alloy boom and whisker pole, all sound. Running rigging to be overhauled this spring.

Full suit of sails – main, 2 genoas, 2 jibs, spinnaker, and various sheets, blocks all in very good condition, stored indoors.

Outboard engine – Suzuki 5hp longshaft fourstroke, 2010. Hardly used, in excellent condition, run in fresh water last year and stored indoors.

Cabin – partly modified by previous owner but unfinished. I have stripped out the headlining, cleaned and painted the bare grp. Main hatch surround will be rebuilt. Windows and hatches are sound. Berth cushions, gas cooker, vhf, fishfinder.  Electric main panel, nav lights and wiring in place but a new battery and connection to it are needed.

Custom built road trailer needs a complete overhaul before it’s usable or would serve as a template for a new build.

Seabee is ashore in a yard near Dartmouth and can be viewed at any time.

Wanted – junk rig (posted Feb 2017)

I am wanting to experiment with junk rigging a long-keeled 24 footer now carrying a 20 square metre boomless standing lug main, and a lug mizzen, both on unstayed masts. Yes this is a bigger boat than a Corribee but I am not after performance so much as ease of handling, and the mizzen adds a few square metres of very useful sail.

I do not need a mast (although would find use for one), and would welcome anything that might get me going – whether full rig, sail, spars or battens. Condition – would be good if what you have is usable, but I am more than happy to get hold of things needing repair.

Does anyone have anything to offer? Advice too would be welcome!

Raymarine autopilot (screen only)
Marine cd player/radio
x2 fused electric panels
Nav lights

Also included is an anchor, chain, rope, and oar boat hook. The boat has plenty of storage space with lockers under all seats and the aft locker. She is powered by a Tohatsu 5hp four stroke sail power outboard which goes well on the boat. It has a separate fuel tank of 20lts. The engine was serviced with new impeller and gear box oil in July.  I have kept a record of receipts from the refurb which will of course also be included in the sale. This boat has an interesting history, having been sailed around the UK solo by a young woman called Katie Miller in 2006 for the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

Perfect entry level cruiser.  Easily sailed single handed, or with crew.  Purchased 5 years ago from fellow club member as a project boat.  Significant time / energy spent bringing boat up to current condition.  We have enjoyed using the Corribee as a day sailor to potter around the harbour, but lack of use this season has prompted sale.  Extensive restoration works so far includes, new bulkheads, new windows, exterior paintwork and graphics, new cushion covers, second-hand mainsail, new UV strip on genoa, replacement of forward hatch, new flooring, new electrical system including solar charging and regulator, navigation lights, depth sounder, bilge pumps and cabin lighting.  Cabin interior has been lined and new shelves and storage units added.  Cabin still needs to be finished off, but offers potential buyer scope to design to their own requirements.  Package includes a good reliable 1998 Yamaha 5hp outboard motor, which has been serviced annually.  The boat is currently out the water for winter layup, storage paid until April 2017 and launch fees also paid.  Suitable moorings are available for new owner at current location if required, subject to membership application.  Annual costs at current club are approximately £130 per year for a mooring and £95 per year for winter layup (including hoisting in and out).  Viewings available on request.

For sale SOLD – yard trailer for bilge keel Corribee (posted Sept 2016, sold Sept 2016)

This trailer is for slipway launching/recovery of a Corribee and is based on the original Newbridge design. It was manufactured in galvanised steel by RM Trailers in Hampshire (http://www.tex-engineering.co.uk/our-divisions/rm-trailers/) and is in good condition. It can also be winched on to a flat bed road trailer, allowing you to move your Corribee by road without specialist yacht transport. Included with the trailer are the wheels, docking arms and drawbar.

The photo of the trailer shows it in its ‘bare’ state as the wheels/docking arms/draw bar are kept at home. The photo with the Corribee onboard (Corribee & skipper not included) illustrates how the complete system works – the trailer is attached to a tractor or winch for lowering down the slipway. For recovery the docking arms locate the boat centrally over the trailer, while lines from the drawbar position the boat fore and aft. The boat and trailer can be pushed around the yard by 3 people. The trailer itself can just about be lifted by two strong guys.

The trailer is located in the Southampton area and I’m looking for £SOLD for it.

For Sale – Mark 2 Twin Keel Corribee (posted June 2016)

I’ve decided to put my Corribee up for sale. She was to be my ultimate boat for pottering around the east coast but I don’t have the time for sailing or working on boats any more. She is basically sound but needs a few items sorting out, mainly the head lining and sea cocks. Has had recent new cushions made and comes with a galvanised twin axle trailer which I have towed the Corribee on but which ideally needs a few bits fabricated to make it properly road worthy. Located near Ashford in Kent.

In conclusion Giovanna wishes for nothing and is complete and ready to sail away, she comes with a galvanised twin-axle road trailer in very good condition as well and is one of the best condition and specced corribees out there.

For Sale – Fulmar-Sail No 162 Bilge Keel Mk2 Corribee For Sale £2500 ono (Posted July 2014)

Currently afloat at Gosport and anti-fouled for the season. New roller furling headsail fitted 2009 and main replaced 2006 with 2 reefing points and lazy-jacks. New stainless steel tabernacle fitted 2009 and all standing rigging replaced 2006. Auxiliary power provided by a Mercury 4HP outboard, weathered but functional and includes external fuel tank. A leisure battery also provides power to the log, echo sounder and nav lights. Other equipment also included are CQR anchor with 20m chain, dodgers, horseshoe lifebuoy, fenders, warps and boom cover. Internally the windows have been replaced, the headlining renewed and the bilges have had a fresh lick of paint this season.

We have owned Fulmar since 2007 and cut our teeth sailing her around the Solent for day trips, extended weekends and summer holidays, unfortunately a change in work commitments has curtailed any future plans (roll on early retirement). I have just revarnished all the exterior woodwork and manufactured new wooden washboards which has added to her appearance. She is ready and waiting for her next venture, please contact Andy on 07773393968, or email simple.sailor2014@gmail.com for any further information or to view.

Maridadi_X5_AlanMckeand_20140707

Maridadi_X6_AlanMckeand_20140707

I have had 12 years of enjoyment sailing Maridadi around virtually two thirds of the UK coastline, mostly single-handed. Reluctantly, however, ill health and advancing years now force a sale.
Due to some neglect over the past couple of years the boat really needs a little TLC, e.g.
(1) a few superficial scratches on the stbd side of the GRP hull need sanding down and the topsides can then be freshly painted,
(2) the wood rubbing strake needs some repair work,
(3) The vinyl upholstered berth cushions also need to be recovered. Hence the asking price of £(SOLD).
With her comprehensive inventory of equipment, Maridadi could put to sea in its present state after receiving a new coat of antifouling and giving the almost new Yamaha 4 hp outboard engine (only used 2 seasons) a routine service.
Maridadi is an ideal boat for any potential blue water sailors on a budget since the hull design is more or less the same type as Roger Taylor’s famous “Ming Ming” (before modifications) in which he made the truly epic voyages described in his recently published books.
Currently lying ashore South Wales.  Contact: (Details redacted-Ed)

Wanted – Sails for MkII Corribee (posted Jan 2014)

I purchased a Corribee Mk2 project from a well known auction site. The description and previous sale indicated an almost brand new set of sails with it which was the reason to purchase. By the time I collected the boat, the sails and anything worthy and moveable were gone. I ended up paying to dispose of someone else’s scrap and relieve him of berthing fees. It cost me a further £100 in fuel and a day off work for the pleasure! Caveat emptor!

As a result, I now require a set of sails for a bermudan rigged Corribee Mk2 alloy mast with a 3M boom. The foresail would be for a Plastimo roller furler. If you have a second hand/used/pre owned set or single sail you no longer need, I can give them a good home. Let me know what you have. Please email apdisposable-corribee@yahoo.co.uk to establish communications. Apologies for this, too much spam hits my inbox.

For Sale – Yard trolley for a Corribee (posted Dec 2013)

I acquired this trolley with a Corribee late in the 2013 season from a couple in Gosport who have the good fortune to have the harbour at the end of their garden. I intended to use it to launch and recover the boat on to a flatbed trailer or car transporter, but after carefully measuring my hard standing don’t have enough room to maneouvre it, so have no need of the trolley. Condition is a bit knackered (some of the welds have parted) but serviceable and the tyres are all quite new. No sensible offer refused and it will be advertised elsewhere. Proceeds of sale will go to this website. Please contact Iain Ballantyne on 07956 977 503

For Sale BRILL CORRIBEE MK 2 FIN KEEL. (posted July 2013)

“Brill” is a Mk 11 Fin keel Corribee. Her hull has been repainted dark blue with a silver stripe, and is in top condition. Topsides in original cream and blue gel coat in reasonable condition. She has OK standing rigging, main, and jib; and could be sailed now – subject to replacement of the depth impeller! (new one supplied). Outboard bracket.

She has a bilge pump, NASA log and depth instruments – believed to be working but untested.

She comes on an excellent yard cradle, which is on four bogey wheels; so she is very easy to transport and launch using a car trailer. An excellent arrangement giving a lot of versatility in terms of where you sail and winter laying-up.

The interior has been largely stripped out ready for relining, re-wiring and refitting. Some ply panels pre-cut and a battery box fitted, with sink, tap and new twin gaz stoves and a clever swivel table leg mechanism, plus new spot lights and main light and switch panel supplied. Anchor and fenders and warps, horseshoe lifebuoy with cradle, and maybe some other bits, go with her.

“Brill” could be day sailed now; or would make an easy and satisfying project. I would love to finish her and sail her, but have too many projects and too little energy and time, so sadly she must go.

She is on her cradle, snug in a barn near Monmouth. I am asking £800 ono for a quick sale, complete with the cradle, which is surely a bargain. My copy of the excellent Corribee Manual is included.

Could arrange road delivery by arrangement. Pictures to follow. Please e-mail: patrick.thomas@virgin.net or phone 01600 750444.

For Sale – Junk Rig Mk2, Mandarin Wind and 4 wheel braked trailer for sale.(25 Sep 2012) Mandarin Wind with Trailer £3750 I was told she was 1980 but the rear stamp cannot be made out, she has the design of this time. This has the original gel coat to all top sides. The hull has been stripped down, re undercoated, primed where necessary and repainted with epifanes lacquer finish in black above the waterline and red antifouling. The hull was found to be in very good condition with no signs of osmosis. (photo’s available). The insides have been stripped down and modified to the simplest layout.

2 round port holes have been added to each side as a previous owner had cut larger windows. The portholes are fitted into 12mm marine ply which strengthens the coach roof and give the more traditional style of the junk rig. A previous owner had started to make an engine well within the lazarette by cutting a hole (as in the coramandel) This was not finished and not right so has been filled and repaired exceptionally strongly with approx. 25mm of fibre glass and marine ply composite. The mast and sail are in very good condition and all kept undercover. The halyard and some other rigging are with the mast but needs a new main sheet for the junk sail and pos. some more bits of rope as with the junk rig. This is a lovely strong little yacht and ready to be further fitted to any individual requirement. I have removed all internal hull wiring and she has no instruments. The original stainless steel side nav. Light fittings have been reinstated but aren’t wired up. I have lots of photographs of her before, during the work and after. If you are interested, please email me for further photos and info. Very genuine reason for sale. Mandarin Wind is kept under cover at the bottom of my son’s garden in the North East not far from Newcastle. The trailer: This is a “transcontinental” 4 wheel, plated to 1.8T, braked trailer and works well as we towed the Corribee 380 miles to the North East with no problems using a Volvo estate car. Good braked twin wheel trailer for above. (Car trailer with ramps). 5 new wheels and tyres 2011. £750. HISTORY. Blue is a reluctant sale after just one season due to other commitments. Her previous owners had her for several years, wintered her ashore and only very rarely ventured from her mooring in the summer. Last year we launched and sailed her from Exmouth to our mooring on the Fal calling in at Dartmouth, Newton Ferrers and Mevagissey. After day and weekend sailing we returned to Newton Ferrers via Fowey at the end of September and thence up the Tamar to Weir Quay where she was craned onto her trailer and towed home further up the valley. The survey we commissioned did not throw up any gremlins and the surveyor judged her to be structurally sound. She comes well equipped but would benefit from some cosmetic tidying inside. We have not been able to get her on the water this year but she is antifouled, on the trailer and generally ready to go. For Sale with or without the trailer. Please call John or Rosie on 01822 870665 or 07779264668.
